It’s in the entryway at the Church of the Holy Apostles where, every Wednesday afternoon for ten or twelve weeks during the spring, the Writers’ Workshop meets. That it’s run by folks (writers and college teachers) who know their subject well is a plus. The cooperation we get from the Kitchen and the Church is good too.
The Workshop is characterized by the absence of put-on styles or pretentiousness. We share our feelings through what we write. Advantages center around diversity, warmth, and being together. The shortcomings relate to time and duration. I always hope for some continuation after the annual reading, which doesn’t happen. I wish the Writers’ Workshop lasted longer and continued year-round, like the Soup Kitchen. I miss it when it ends each year.
